Christmas seems very different in Ajijic, Mexico.  In the states there are houses lit up with lights everywhere.  I have seen a few houses with lights and since there are no malls to shop in here, it feels strange.  I attended a Baptist Church's Christmas program and it felt good to hear Christmas carols, scripture being read and most of all to see children.  A lot of the "gringo" churches don't seem to have many children because they are mostly attended by retirees.  We have attended several different churches, but can't seem to find a good fit.  We sure miss Waters Edge Church so much.

These are videos of part of the service.  Both girls did a good job.

If you wonder why Americans and Canadians are moving to Ajijic Mexico it is basically because the cost of living is so very affordable and the strength of the dollar here is great. One Canadian couple we met called themselves "economic refugees"!  Our plan when we moved here was to live with Bob's sister, Pat, and her husband for a year.  They have told us they need to move back to the states due to Pat's husband needing some surgery. So we are on the look out for a new place to stay for a few more months.  They will be leaving the first of February.  We will be sad to see them leave, but grateful for the time spent with them.  Today we looked at a 2 bedroom furnished apt. with a view of the lake and mountains that rents for $500.00. That includes a maid, gardener, wifi internet, cable TV, hot tub and all utilities. The apt. is in a gated community with security guards patrolling the area regularly and is located in San Juan Cosula,, about 8 minutes away from our current location.  It is in a wealthy community called "The Racquet Club".

We shopped in the local market yesterday and bought the following fruit and vegetables locally grown below and spent $8.00 - 12 apples,  12 large tangerines, string beans, 11 cucumbers, 1 red pepper, 1 orange pepper, 1 yellow pepper, 6 tomatoes, 3 onions, 1 jicama, fresh sweet peas, 14 small potatoes, 3 carrots and a large bunch of spring onions    Filet mignon steak and maui maui fish cost us $6.00 per meal.

Life is good here and we are enjoying it!
