We took a trip to Tlaquepaque with Bob's sister's best friend, Aracely Marquez and her husband, Gilberto. Aracely speaks very good English and her husband speaks a little. He does however understand most of what is said. Tlaquepaque is in Guadalajara and approximately 1 1/2 hours from where we live. Aracely drove as she lived about 35 years of her life in Guadalajara before moving to Ajijic. Guadalajara has 7 million people and is the 2nd largest city in Mexico.
This is Aracely Marquez and her daughter, Brenda Vazquez. Brenda was the "Angel" who spent 6 hours with us as our translator and negotiator during our fender-bender legal procedure.
Houses as we approached Guadalajara.
Fast food being carried on this motorcycle.
Just before we turned to find a parking space, the area looked somewhat run down, but after we turned and went down a few blocks and parked, we found the shopping and restaurant area to be absolutely gorgeous.
This house was decorated for ?? Halloween early??? Or Day of the Dead is fast approaching where they remember and celebrate their dead ancestors.
Such beautiful carved wooden doors everywhere you go.
And great door elephant door handles.
This area has a lot of artists and many interesting art shops.
Arcacely choose a beautiful traditional Mexican Restaurant for us to have lunch. This is the entrance.
Unfortunately, the picture came out blurred, but the green on the floor as you enter the restaurant is small spruce branches so as you walk over and crush it, it smells like a Christmas tree.
The place inside is huge, with beautiful paintings and trees and flowers growing up the walls. There are many Mexican families, not too many Americans.
Bob's sister, Pat, looking over the menu with Aracely.
They brought us bread and drinks first. The corn husks hold butter inside.
Aracely ordered a traditional Mexican appetizer. The waiter brought this lava bowl with boiling sauce and a large chunk of Mexican cheese in the middle which he proceeded to cut in small chunks at our table. Quite a presentation! You spooned out some cheese and sauce and placed it in a corn tortilla. It was very good.
Aracely ordered this dish made of a green chili pepper stuffed with ground meat and fruit topped with a ground almond sauce and pomegranate seeds. I tasted it and it was also good. It's presentation was beautiful.
Bob's sister ordered a salmon salad.
Bob and I had chicken and pepper casadeas, fried beans in a pasty shell and guacamole in a pastry shell. It was good looking and tasting.
There was a combo singing and playing music as we ate.
Bob, Gilberto, Pat and Aracely.
It was a wonderful lunch and time of enjoying each other's company.
